THE 2009 AMERICAN COLLEGE OF OSTEOPATHIC FAMILY PHYSICIANS “PHYSICIAN OF THE YEAR” AWARD

Steven F. Rubin, DO, FACOFP dist. was named the 2009 Osteopathic Family Physician of the Year at the 46th annual convention in Washington, D.C. Dr. Rubin was selected from approximately 30,000 Osteopathic Family Physicians fro this the highest and most prestigious honor bestowed upon an Osteopathic Family Physician.

Steven F. Rubin, DO, FACOFP dist., was installed as the 54th President of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians (ACOFP), during ACOFP’s 44th Annual Convention & Exhibition in Kissimmee, Florida in 2007.

A board-certified family physician, Dr. Rubin is a graduate of The Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland and the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kirksville, Missouri. Dr. Rubin served two terms as the President of the New Jersey State Chapter of ACOFP, 1994-1998.

Dr. Rubin is currently an attending physician and served has as Chairman for the Department of Family Medicine at The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, New Jersey.

He is also Associate Professor in the Departments of Family Practice and Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-School of Osteopathic Medicine, the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine and the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Dr. Rubin served as the Chairman of the Physician Advisory Board of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-School of Osteopathic Medicine. He is a member of the Board of Governors of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians and served as its 54th President, 2007-2008.

He also is the recipient of the Mentor Hall of Fame Award in 2004, awarded by the American Osteopathic Association for his commitment to educating and mentoring students, interns, residents and physicians.

Dr. Rubin has also served as a Police Physician for the State of New Jersey for more than 20 years and has been awarded the honor of membership in the Honor Legion of the Police Departments of the State of New Jersey for his commitment and dedication to law enforcement.

Dr. Rubin and his wife, Roni, reside in Paramus, New Jersey, with their two daughters, Simone and Whitney Father In Law,Jack and their loving dog Twix.

The New Jersey Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons (NJAOPS), is pleased to announce, that the recipient of the 2001 “Physician of the Year” Award, is Steven F. Rubin, D.O., FACOFP. Dr. Rubin will be presented with this most prestigious award, at the Atlantic Regional Osteopathic Convention (AROC) Banquet, on Friday, April 20th, 2001, at the Tropicana Casino and Resort in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

The “Physician of the Year” Award is reserved for individuals with a record of meritorious service to his or her community, county, state and national professional associations, as well as, the Osteopathic Profession. It is the highest tribute the Membership, of NJAOPS , can bestow on a colleague. It demonstrates recognition of Dr. Rubin, as an exemplary Osteopathic Physician, whose total commitment, to Family Practice and Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine, over his 15-year medical career, best exemplifies the qualities inherent in the “Physician of the Year.”

A graduate of Johns Hopkins University, Dr. Rubin pursued his Osteopathic medical education at the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine, and graduated in 1984. He completed his internship and residency training at the Kennedy Memorial Hospitals at Saddle Brook, New Jersey. In 1986, Dr. Rubin became Board certified in Family Practice and Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine and opened his solo practice in Fair Lawn, New Jersey. In addition, he became a Fellow of The American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians (FACOFP), in 1992.

Dr. Rubin has served NJAOPS in many leadership positions, as an Officer and a member of the Board of Directors, and currently, is the Chairman of the Membership Committee. In addition, he is a Delegate to the NJAOPS House of Delegates, The American Osteopathic Association, and The American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians. He is a long-time President of The Bergen-Passaic Osteopathic Medical Society, providing educational and political exposure to the membership. Dr. Rubin, is also a two-term past president of the New Jersey Chapter of the ACOFP, and serves, presently, as Chairman of the Marketing and Public Relations Committee of ACOFP’s National Association.

Dr. Rubin resides in Paramus, New Jersey, with his wife Roni and their children, Simone and Whitney. He has served as a Bergen County and New Jersey State PBA Police Surgeon for the past eleven years. He practices on staff of The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, New Jersey, and serves as the Associate Chairman of the Department of Family Practice. Steven F. Rubin, D.O., FACOFP has held numerous academic and professional appointments throughout his medical career. He is an outstanding and exemplary Osteopathic Physician, who is a most deserving recipient of the 2001 “Physician of the Year” Award.

The objects and purposes of the Honor Legion are to inspire in all individuals associated or connected with law enforcement, self respect, courage, loyalty and devotion to duty; to create a deep feeling of comradeship among all connected with the various police departments without recognition as to rank; to lend aid to all widows and dependents of any police officer, regardless of rank, who shall be killed or incapacitated in the pursuit of his duties; to create appropriate programs for the benefit of all persons associated with law enforcement.

Any member of the police departments and police agencies of the State of New Jersey who has received departmental recognition, medal of honor, honorable mention, or other commendation for deeds of valor performed at imminent risk of life, or who has been commended for meritorious acts at personal risk, shall be eligible to active membership in this association, subject to restrictions and limitations provided for in the constitution and by-laws of this association. Our creed is explicit on requirements for membership. Applications are passed upon by a membership board of directors, and if approved, said applicant is entitled to membership.
